This past weekend 8/28/2010 the Peak Antifreeze & Motor Oil Indy 300 was held in Joliet, Illinois at the Chicagoland Speedway. The track is 1.5 mile oval. Brought in a crowd and they watched Franchitti bring in the checkered flag. He was seven spots behind championship points and race leader Will Power entering the final round of pit stops under caution for ethanol and tires.
Target Chip Ganassi engineer Chris Simmons made the call not to change the Firestone Firehawks. Race strategist Chip Ganassi quickly agreed and left Dario Fanchitti do the rest on the track.

Franchittie picked up the lead on Lap 173. It was the not to change the tires that put him out in front. By having faith in the tires to make it the 93 miles to the finish line took a gut call. Because with the blistering 217 mph-plus pace to remain in the lead pack that was quickly soaking up the ethanol. This race had a season high 25 lead changes and with the top 13 cars within on second of each other on Lap

Can you believe that these drivers would drive 24 hours? And this might happen.

24 Hours of LeMans June 12 & 13 !!

If you are a true Motorsports fanatic, you already know what is coming this weekend! The 78th Annual 24 Hour race in France which made multi-class endurance racing famous. This race has an incredible history and has had movies made from it, as well as a huge draw of famous people participating in it. The race which is held on a multiple circuit track which rages from 1.9 to 2.9 kilometers is both an incredible challenge to both drivers and car builders alike. Keeping a racing vehicle operating for 24 hours has shown to be a nightmare for many teams over the years. Plus you have multiple driver changes to consider during the event. Some teams have up to five different drivers who will be in the cockpit of the car. So teams must be able to find the comfort zone of each driver while they are in the vehicle. There is also many different types of cars on the track at the same time, so the drivers in the prototype’s are constantly driving around the slower classes. The Speed Network will be carrying some of the 24 hour event starting at 7:30 a.m. CST on Saturday. The official LeMans site at LeMans.org offers a patch to view on the internet. Much thanks to Rolex, Dunlop, Audi, Michelin, Peugot, and Total for helping to sponsor this incredible Motorsports Event.   *Submitted by PushGripTurn.

HOW ABOUT LUCAS OIL 200:
In Newton, Iowa the 20 year old grandson of Richard Childress, Austin Dillon lead 187 laps of the 200 in the Nascar Camping World Series truck race.
His first career win and putting the revered black No. 3 Chevrolet in victory lane. Austin’s only mistake during the night was the stumble on the way to the top of the podium. “We didn’t have any mistakes anywhere” Dillon said. Taking the green-white-checkered flag for the finish after two restarts.
Johnny Sauter passed Dillon on one restart with 50 laps to go, but couldn’t over power him on the last two.

Advice and words of encouragement from his grandfather on the final was to change his pick-up point a little bit, instead of being repetitive.
Thanks Grandpa. And some help from his brother Ty,who won his pole in the ARCA race putting pressure on Austin.
