RIP

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

Well I have had a bad year with some personal things and left them get in my way from doing articles.  Sorry for doing that.

But I did need to post our deepest sympathy to the Dan Wheldon immediate family and to his Indy Car Racing family.  The last race for the season and that is how it ends up in a fiery death crash.   May he rest in peace.

I will not post a picture of that crash.  Not necessary everyone has seen it in the news media.

So now the Sprint Cup Chase is getting mightier closer and the wolf pack is fighting for points and placement.

Who is it going to be????????  Matt Kenseth is coming on strong.

The order as of now sits as:  Carl Edwards,  Kevin Harvick, Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch, Tony Stewart, Brad Keselowski, Kurt Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Ryan Newman, Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin, Clint Bowyer, A.J. Allmendinger, Kasey Kahne.  These are the top 15 drivers.

Now for Some NASCAR NEWS!!!!

During the year we have seen and heard new things or should say strange turn of events:  Danica Patrick to race the Nationwide Series Nascar events.    Rookie taking the Daytona 500–Trevor Bayne.  Now the Woods brothers can’t find a sponsor.  Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch being put on Probation.  Kyle Busch on probation instead of losing his drivers license for driving 128 mph in a 45 mph in a neighborhood in Mooresville,  North Carolina.  Kurt Busch feuding with media and being in Jimmie Johnson’s head.  Pastor making prerace prayer ruffled some fans, and media made attention for it.   Earnhardt to remain with Hendrick Racing though the year 2017, his car will have a new paint scheme for the Daytona 500 next year.  Diet Mountain Dew will be on board.  Greg Biffle fired his crew chief Greg Erwin.   In a charity race Matt Kenseth’s wife Katie broke her shoulder blade during practice for the Charolette’s race called the Better Half Dash.  (hope for speedy recovery).  Kyle Petty’s wife being diagnosed with Parkinson Disease.  Kyle quoted that Pattie will not let Parkinson regulate her life.  Joe Gibbs has signed with new sponsor for Joey Logano’s #20 car, along with Home Depot he will now have Dollar General.

The next race is a Charlotte Motor Speedway.  Some are looking forward to race there and some of course are not.

We want to wish all the Drivers—Be Careful and Safe out there. God Bless you all.

See you on the next post.

Let the Back Flips Begin

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

Push Grip Turn always like watching Carl Edwards do his back flips when he wins a race. And so this past Sunday we got to watch him do it. As he was him beaming with all his smiles. In his #99 Ford for Rousch Fenway Racing in the Kobalt Tools 500 at Las Vegas he won the Trophy Wrench. Nascar news “Was it luck” more than likely due to a pit mistake on Tony Stewart’s part. Tony dragged an air wrench from his stall under caution Lap 155 and Edwards powered across the finish line 1.246 seconds ahead of Stewarts #14 Chevrolet. This victory meant a lot to him, after being disappointed by having his pole-winning car knocked into the fence early in last week’s race at Phoenix, and by finishing second in the Feb. 20 Daytona 500 race.
He led the final 23 Laps He thinks that flying with the Air Force Thunderbirds on Thursday had made him fly on the track Sunday. And he is going to have the trophy in the hangar at the Nellis Air Force Base. He said that they taught him about discipline and about believing in what you do. The trophy is how he is going to thank them. After doing his traditional back flip he carried the checkered flag and walked the track in his Scotts EZ seed racing uniform.

Dry Spell Ends

Monday, February 28th, 2011

During all the interviews that Trevor Bayne did last week after winning the Daytona 500. Jeff Gordon’s name was mentioned throughout all of them. Trevor mentioned that his idol was Jeff Gordon. Was this the inspiration that Jeff needed to end of his NASCAR 66  winless streak?  Well Push Grip Turn thinks that is what Jeff needed.

This all came at the Phoenix  International Raceway for the Subway Fresh Fit 500 Race.  This was his 83rd Career Victory, tying him with Cale Yarborough  for fifth all-time.  This all happened with two major crashes early in the race.  One taking out the Daytona 500 Winner.   There were 12 Drivers that held the lead lap  of 28 times.  Jeff Gordon led 6 times for 138 laps.  His last  lead was when he past Kyle Busch to prevent him from having his triple treat at Phoenix.   He won the Truck and Nationwide Series Races.  Jeff Gordon was in his #24 Chevrolet , followed by Kyle Busch in his Toyota, and Jimmie Johnson in his Chevrolet.  4th was Kevin Harvick and 5th with Ryan Newman with Chevrolet’s.

The Youngster takes The Daytona 500

Monday, February 21st, 2011

What’s going to be called one of the Memorable moments at Daytona 500: NASCAR on Sunday at the Daytona 500 Push Grip Turn saw the youngest driver who turned 20 years old on Saturday, celebrated his birthday by winning the DAYTONA 500, known as the Great American Race. This will go down as one of the most memorable moments at Daytona 500. He gave the historic Wood Brothers team its fifth Daytona 500 victory – and their first since 1976 with David Pearson. Who was this young fellow that only shaves once a week??? His name is Trevor Bayne who only made one other Sprint Cup Series start.
What all transpired in this historic Daytona 500 race.
For one it was the tenth anniversary of Dale Earnhardt’s tragic death by the fatal accident on the last lap.
To honor him, lap 3 was silent and the fans all held up three fingers in honor of Earnhardt’s car number for that lap.
NASCAR saw a feature record of 74 lead changes among 22 drivers and a record 16 cautions that wiped out many of the leaders. Including Dale Earnhard Jr. on the first attemp at NASCAR’s version of overtime. That is what put Bayne in front. And that is what brought Glen and Leonard Wood’s dry spell to an end. It seem like all the veterans were happy for Trevor, saying how nice of a young man he is to represent this sport with a win. He was so happy that he needed directions to victory lane—go figure. How many stunning races like this are there??

Pole Setter for Daytona 500 has to Start Last

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

February 16, 2011 Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s Daytona 500 pole-winning Chevy was involved in a crash this afternoon. And sustained enough damage that the team had to go to a back up car.
So on, Sunday’s Daytona 500 race Earnhardt will have to start from the back of the field instead of the front. Earnhardt, who had won his first career super speedway pole, said he had a bad feeling about even running in the rain-delayed practice Wednesday.
It happened this way: Earnhardt’s No. 88 AMP Energy Chevy was riding second in a two-car draft behind Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jimmie Johnson when they slowed to avoid traffic. The two cars behind them — Martin Truex Jr. and Brian Vickers — didn’t react quickly enough and Truex hit Earnhardt from behind, sending both cars into the inside wall.

Because of the unique qualifying format for the Daytona 500, only the two fastest cars officially “qualified” for the 500 during Sunday’s time trials — polewinner Earnhardt and second fastest Jeff Gordon. NASCAR rules in Section 9-6-1 state that if a driver has to switch from the car he qualified in, then he must drop to the rear of the field for the green flag. And when that happens, the third place starter — which will be determined in Thursday’s Gatorade Duel 150-mile qualifying race — will move up into the first position alongside Gordon for the start of the Daytona 500.

“We’ve got the pole-sitting race car, we didn’t need practice,” an obviously frustrated Earnhardt said, ‘I had a fast car and I didn’t want to practice it.

“I had a bad feeling about it and we come running up on some guys that didn’t have their heads on straight and got into an accident.”

Daytona 500 to Honor

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

Push Grip Turn notes that Sunday’s Race February 20, 2011 Dale Earnhardt, Jr., who won the pole position for the Daytona 500, with a qualifying lap of
186.089 mph. And the race is going to honor Dale Earnhardt, Sr.
Daytona International Speedway officials have set plans to honor the memory of Dale Earnhardt, Sr. They are asking fans to hold up three fingers — a tribute to Earnhardt’s No. 3 Chevy–during the third lap of the Daytona 500 on Sunday. They are also asking fans for a moment of silence during that third lap.
Earnhardt died in 2001 after crashing on the final lap of the Daytona 500. And the officials of the Daytona International Speedway feel the appropriate way to honor him is in the actual racing. Track president Jole Chitwood says “the best way to appreciate the things Dale did–he was about racing–and how we respect him should be on the track.”
Dale Earnhardt, Jr. says “he enjoys hearing other people talk about him, and not about me.
